What is FastPak for Java?

FastPak for Java is an application loader/launcher for Java and native applications. The FastPak loader comes with a networked interface, which allows users to launch and monitor Java based applications on remote systems. FastPak launches Java based applications under a single Java virtual machine (JVM) which can save a considerable amount of resources in terms of operating system processes, threads, and memory consumption. The screen capture below shows a single instance of FastPak running three applications under it.

FastPak for Java does not "overthrow" a system. Users are not required to use FastPak for launching applications, just those they select to launch under one or more FastPak instances. Additionally, many applications written in Java may be capable of running under FastPak as-is, without any modifications to code.

Each FastPak instance can be configured to make use of its networked Controller Thread, which allows the remote launching and monitoring of any Java applications launched under FastPak. Native applications may also be launched via this thread. FastPak thus gives users, administrators, and developers the capability to manage a host of systems, a full network if desired, in a platform independent manner.

All FastPak kits come with the FastPak API library which allows developers to write their own interfaces to FastPak, and if so desired sell them or bundle them with their own applications.

FastPak is available for Windows 98SE, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Linux, and OS X.
